Starlink Installation Cost UK: Self-Install vs Professional

Starlink install cost in the UK: what professional mounting includes, when DIY is enough, and how Berkshire and Surrey homes change the quote.

Published 30 August 2026

People search Starlink professional installation cost, self-install versus pro, and what is included. Those queries were split across two older posts. This one answers the money question.

Hardware is purchased from Starlink. Our fee is the survey, the mount, the cable and the commissioning. Read is Starlink worth it in the UK for monthly plans, and DIY mistakes that cost speed for the install quality argument.

We do not publish a single install figure because a fascia mount on a clear Maidenhead elevation and a pole above a Virginia Water tree line are not the same day. We quote after photos.

Three layers of cost people mix up

Starlink money comes in three layers. Mixing them is how internet threads disagree.

  1. The kit. Dish, router and the cable Starlink ships. Bought from Starlink, not from us. Checkout offers change: sometimes you buy the hardware, sometimes you rent it, and a monthly kit fee has appeared and disappeared on new UK orders.
  2. The monthly plan. UK residential tiers currently sit around £40, £60 and £80 for 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps and Max. Availability is postcode-dependent. The cheapest tier is not on every address. Enter your postcode on starlink.com.
  3. The install, and the indoor network. That is our work. Mounting, weatherproofing, commissioning, and optional whole home WiFi or data cabling so rooms actually get the satellite speed.

If full fibre is already solid, none of those layers is the right spend. Fix the radios in the house first. Why WiFi is slow with fast broadband.

What you are paying a professional for

  • Sky check from more than one elevation
  • A mount rated for wind, not a cable tie
  • A sealed, weatherproof entry
  • App setup and a real speed test
  • An honest answer if rooms still need indoor WiFi

That last point saves money. A dish on a house that already has full fibre does not fix poor WiFi upstairs.

The Starlink installation hub lists what a professional visit includes. Town pages exist for Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead, Ascot, Virginia Water and Bracknell. Surrey jobs that are not Virginia Water sit on Starlink installation in Surrey.

When DIY is genuinely cheaper

A flat, accessible garden with clear sky and a cable that can enter without a new hole. If that is your plot, use the stand and keep the money.

Most Berkshire and Surrey houses are not that plot. Period walls, neighbouring roofs, trees and a hallway router are the usual combination.

DIY still fails in the same five ways we wrote up in the seven mistakes post: convenient placement instead of clear sky, a mount that moves, a cable through a window, no weatherproofing, and no indoor distribution.

We rescue those jobs. Rescue is usually more expensive than booking the mount properly the first time, because someone has already drilled the wrong elevation.

What pushes a professional quote up

  • Roof, chimney or tall pole work, including working-at-height time
  • Long external runs on large Virginia Water or Weybridge plots
  • Listed or conservation constraints around Windsor and Clewer
  • Same-day whole home WiFi or a garden office cable
  • Awkward loft hatches and deep eaves that slow the indoor route
  • A previous DIY install that has to be unpicked first

Straightforward wall or fascia mounts on a clear elevation sit toward the lower end. Photos of the mount face and tree line are enough for most quotes.

A ballast mount on a flat roof avoids penetrating the covering. A chimney pole helps when neighbouring houses block a lower wall. Neither is a “standard kit add-on”. They are specified against the sky view.

Indoor WiFi is a separate line, on purpose

Starlink solves the feed. It does not cover a three storey townhouse or a garden office.

We will not bury a mesh kit inside a dish quote so the number looks tidy. If rooms still fail after the dish is live, that is a designed whole home or cabling job. On large Surrey plots it is often the larger half of the day. Reliable WiFi in large Surrey homes.

If the speed test next to the Starlink router is fine and the far kitchen is not, do not buy a higher monthly plan. Distribute.

Surrey and Berkshire examples

Rural edges toward Binfield, Warfield, Winkfield Row and the lanes near Crowthorne are where Starlink earns the monthly fee. The install is often a taller mount to clear retained woodland. Starlink vs 4G and 5G and best internet for rural homes.

Virginia Water and many Weybridge gardens fight summer canopy. Pole or chimney mounts are common. The cable run to a plant room 20 metres from the house is the other half of the quote.

Commuter streets in Slough, Woking or Camberley that already have decent fibre usually do not need a dish. If the complaint is upstairs WiFi, we will say so. Starlink installation in Surrey exists so that conversation has a local URL.

Windsor and Maidenhead jobs split cleanly: some streets are already on FTTP and only need access points, some riverside or woodland edges still need the sky.

Amazon Leo will not change the install physics when it arrives. It is not a cheaper mount today because you cannot order the kit. Amazon Leo vs Starlink.

What a rescue visit usually involves

Someone has already placed the dish where the patio is convenient. The app showed “clear” in winter. July leaf took the link down. The cable is through a window or clipped to a gutter.

We start again from sky view. That often means a different elevation and a proper entry. The old holes get made good where we can. The indoor router still only covers the room it sits in, so the rescue quote may include an access point the first visit should have had.

If you are mid-DIY and the dish is still in the box, stop and send photos. It is cheaper than asking us to undo a Friday evening.

How to get a number

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does professional Starlink installation cost in the UK?

Our fee covers the sky survey, mount, cable route, commissioning and testing. Hardware is bought from Starlink. Straightforward wall or pole mounts sit toward the lower end. Roof work, long runs and same-day WiFi sit higher. Quotes are fixed before we start. Contact us with photos of the elevation.

Is Starlink professional installation worth it?

Yes when the dish needs a secure elevation, a sealed cable entry, or indoor WiFi after the feed is live. A clear garden with a short cable can be a fair DIY job. See DIY vs professional Starlink.

Does the Starlink kit include installation?

No. You buy the kit from Starlink. Professional installation is a separate trade visit for mounting, cabling and network setup. Starlink installation.

Can I self-install Starlink to save money?

You can. The risk is a weak sky view, a mount that moves in wind, water at the wall, and WiFi that only works in one room. We can also rescue a DIY install. DIY vs professional Starlink.

How much is Starlink per month in the UK?

Residential plans currently sit around £40, £60 and £80 a month for the 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps and Max tiers. Hardware is separate. Enter your postcode on starlink.com. You can use our referral link where a trial month is still offered.

Is installation more expensive in Surrey?

Tree lines and long plots around Virginia Water and Weybridge often need taller mounts and more cable. See Starlink installation in Surrey.

Do I pay for whole home WiFi as well?

Only if rooms still need coverage after the dish is online. That is a separate, quoted part of the same visit. Whole home WiFi.

Will Amazon Leo be cheaper to install?

The physical job is similar. Leo is not orderable for UK homes yet, so there is no live install price to compare. Amazon Leo vs Starlink.
