Stock mixes 1930s semis, newer flats, and offices that should be on the [business WiFi](https://berkshirewifi.co.uk/business-office-wifi/) page instead. Flats here fail because the router is in a hallway cupboard and the neighbour’s mesh is louder than yours. A ceiling AP on a short cable, or a properly placed mesh pair, beats a “WiFi 7” box on the floor. Ethernet in a leasehold flat is a permission conversation. We will use skirting and cupboards before we invent a loft. Uxbridge houses are often a 1930s semi with a kitchen extension and a back bedroom that never saw the hallway router. That is a Berkshire-shaped job on the A40: loft drop if we can, a ceiling AP, maybe a second radio for the extension. A cupboard that holds the incoming line, the stopcock, and a router on the floor. Neighbours on all sides. A three-node mesh has nowhere honest to sit. One ceiling AP on a short Cat6 from that cupboard is often the whole design. We would rather that than a sculpture on every sideboard. Leasehold rules decide the route. We do not drill a communal hall. We do not enter a riser without the building’s say-so. Skirting, a wardrobe, an existing TV point if it actually goes somewhere useful. Terraces and 2.4GHz congestion are the story. Phone tests at the front door do not prove the back bedroom. Mesh is a reasonable first design if we can put nodes where signal already exists. A Hounslow terrace is a long thin plan with a thick wall down the side and an extension that was never in the original radio design. The ISP router in the front room covers the bay and loses the kitchen. We walk front to back, not just the hallway. Mesh works when a node in the middle of the house can still hear the first node strongly. Through a chimney breast or a foil-lined kitchen, it usually cannot. Then we talk about a short cable to a single AP that can see the rooms that fail. That is one honest radio instead of three weak ones. Spectrum is busy. Your neighbour’s mesh is part of the survey. We will not promise that a new generation of radio will punch through a party wall because the box is newer. Placement first, then band. If the line lands in a riser we cannot access, the design has to live inside the flat: a small switch in a wardrobe, a ceiling AP, and no fantasy about hiding cable in someone else’s duct. Then we walk the rooms with the worst complaints. In a Hounslow terrace that is often the back bedroom and the kitchen extension. In an Uxbridge flat it is the room furthest from the hallway cupboard. We are looking for a place an access point can sit without annoying the lease, the neighbours, or the person who has to dust it. If mesh is the honest tool, we place nodes where they can still hear each other. If the party wall is the problem, we talk about a short Cat6 to a single ceiling AP instead of three boxes on sideboards. We would rather lose a mesh sale than leave you with a pretty kit that still fails. On a house visit we look at the loft hatch, the eaves, and whether the extension has a ceiling we can use. A 1930s Uxbridge semi with a boarded loft is a short cable day. A Hounslow terrace with no hatch over the extension is a skirting and trunking conversation. We photograph proposed routes. We agree. Your neighbour’s mesh is part of the design whether you like it or not. A new generation of radio helps when the AP is in the right place. It does not punch through a party wall. We set channels on purpose, separate 2.4GHz gadgets if they are the things dropping, and we will tell you if the real issue is the line in the street.
